letter by the soldier to his mother B.L., V. F., T. C., F. D.,
December 20th 1917
Dear mum,
thanks for your letter. You told me that dad is unhealthy. how is he now? Is dad getting better?
Here, we must always pay attention to unexpected attacks.
It is very hard to survive because it is very cold. We have always to look for wood to get warm and keep the fire on if we want to stay alive.
Our provisions are running out and usually we don't have anything to eat and igienic conditions are awful. Bombs are falling continuously and I have seen a lot of my friends hit by bombs.
Can you send me some food, please?
I hope you are fine
bye bye
your dearest son
